Category Manager- Gear

The Category Manager will drive the strategic growth of Black Rifle’s Gear category from concept through commercialization. Ownership of all stages of the product lifecycle including short- and long-term strategies and trend direction, building the assortment architecture, championing new product development, managing pricing and profitability, rationalizing product and SKU portfolios, and managing the end-of-life process.  This position works closely with Sales, Marketing, Art, Design and Supply Chain.  


  • Establish long and short-term product line strategies that support the overall business objectives. These strategies will be influenced by organizational sales and profit goals, and be supported by market and consumer research, as well as feedback from customers and the sales organization.
  • Propose seasonal assortment plan with clearly defined product positioning, pricing, revenue targets, cost targets and margin goals.
  • Product Lifecycle Management including which businesses and products to grow and which to exit.
  • Build and maintain visual tools required to effectively communicate long-range and seasonal line planning decisions for the product line.
  • Key point of contact for all product-related inquiries from Sales, Repair/Warranty, Customer Service and collect and analyze feedback to inform decision-making.
  • Drive and champion the day-to-day activities of managing and developing product lines.
  • Understanding of gear production processes, industry competitors, costing, performance and function to make informed category decisions.
  • Collaborate on the seasonal development calendar milestones with the cross functional team.
  • Present, as needed, prototypes to key executives, Sales, Marketing, and internal staff to help communicate seasonal direction to key stakeholders.
  • Establish product wholesale and retail pricing structure that meets revenue and profitability targets.
  • Establish strong relationships and open lines of communication with the Sales team and Retail team to maintain on-going communications regarding market dynamics. 
  • Partner with Sourcing team to maintain a strong understanding of demand, forecast and inventory levels and provide concise information to support efficient SKU management.
  • Work with both in-house and outside design teams to ensure all initial design, function, pricing, and timing goals are met.
  • In collaboration with Design & Art, work to develop and execute profitable product offerings while taking into consideration current trends.


  • 5+ years of experience in Product Strategy or Category Management
  • Experience in NetSuite or similar ERP software
  • Proficient skill level in MS office and Excel 
  • Experience in interpreting significant amounts of data, reports and analysis in order to turn it into action steps to achieve goals 
  • Demonstrate excellent judgement and able to maintain confidentiality 
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills to apply in communications with business partners, the stores and internal departments 
  • Plan and manage multiple projects and meet deadlines 
  • Must have attention to detail and proven follow up skills
  • US Military Veteran a plus
